• Replace light fixtures, switches, and outlets
• Install ceiling fans (where wiring and rated box already exist)
• Replace or install smoke and CO detectors

Carpentry & Furniture

• Furniture assembly and repair
• Build or install small shelving and storage solutions
• Minor trim and molding repair

Outdoor & Seasonal Work

• Power washing decks, siding, and driveways
• Gutter cleaning and small repairs
• Fence and gate repair
• Deck and fence sealing/staining
• Replace exterior lighting (using existing wiring only)

Smart Home (usually requires access to customer’s phone for set up)

• Install and configure smart bulbs, dimmers, and plug-in smart switches
• Replace existing switches with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth smart switches (using existing wiring only)
• Set up motion sensors and schedules through mobile apps or hubs
• Smart outlet installation and set up
• Replace existing thermostats with smart thermostats
• Configure schedules, energy-saving modes, and app access
• Install smart locks and doorbell cameras
• Set up security cameras and connect them to home networks
• Mount and configure video doorbells (battery or low-voltage wired to existing chime)
• Add water leak sensors under sinks, dishwashers, and water heaters

Services I Don’t Provide

For safety, quality, and legal reasons, I don’t take on:

• Jobs over $1000 in labor + materials (California handyman limit without a contractor’s license)
• Structural work (load-bearing walls, roofing, foundations, framing)
• HVAC installation or repair (furnaces, AC systems)
• Major plumbing (water heaters, repiping, gas lines)
• Major electrical (panel upgrades, rewiring, new circuits)
• Roofing beyond minor patching
• Hazardous materials (asbestos, lead, mold remediation, pest control)
• Large remodels or full-scale renovations

About Me

My name is Hugo and I’m an accomplished mechanical and environmental engineer, and until recently, was a federal government civil servant. I am now building a handyman business that serves the East Bay.

As the eldest son to a single mother, I began fixing things around the house when I was in middle school. Later, as a home owner, I honed my skills in repairing and improving my own house, as well as overseeing several larger projects by contractors. In addition to the handyman skills I’ve developed over the years, my background in engineering lends me a strong foundation in precision, creative problem-solving, use of optimal materials and methods, and safety.

I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands and helping people. Building a business as a handyman supports these longstanding values, as well as allowing me more flexibility to be present for my family – which now includes two young children!
